What Is Fotona Lightwalker® Laser?

Dental lasers are playing an increasingly important role in periodontal therapy. Lasers can provide highly effective treatments for procedures such as:

  • null
    Periodontitis (Gum disease)

  • null
Peri-implantitis (Gum disease around dental implants)

  • null
    Gum reshaping

  • null
    Gum pigmentation removal

  • null
    Gum grafting

  • null
    Crown lengthening

  • null
    Frenectomy

  • null
    Lesion removal for biopsies

  • null
Pain control for canker sores, cold sores and traumatic ulcers

  • null
Removal of infected tissue and many more applications

Fotona dual-wavelength (Er:YAG and Nd:YAG) laser is a cutting edge technology and the perfect tool for performing the widest variety of laser-assisted periodontal procedures in a minimally invasive and cost-effective manner.

How Does Fotona Lightwalker® Laser Work?

For treating periodontal disease, FDA approved, Fotona’s TwinLight® Periodontal Treatment (TPT) is a comprehensive and minimally invasive periodontal therapy incorporating the power of dentistry’s two most effective laser wavelengths: Er:YAG and Nd:YAG. The TwinLight® approach enables wavelength-optimized treatments for periodontal therapy, which creates the optimal conditions for healing and regenerating periodontal tissues. Additionally, TPT prevents infection and promotes reduction in pocket depths. Its advanced technology, Photo Activated Systems Technology or PHAST™, is the scientific foundation for the Lightwalker laser and the basis for a wide range of advanced clinical laser procedures.

The TwinLight® Procedure Is Performed in Three Simple Steps:

Step 1: The Nd:YAG laser removes the diseased epithelial lining of the periodontal pocket and improves access to the root surface.

Step 2: The Er:YAG laser is used to thoroughly remove microbial biofilm and calculus from the root surface.

Step 3: The Nd:YAG laser energy is used to coagulate and promote the formation of a stable fibrin clot.

Additionally, bite adjustment (removing occlusal trauma) is made to allow for optimal, atraumatic healing.

Optimal Wavelength Combination

Fotona dual-wavelength laser is the ONLY “ALL” tissue laser for treating periodontal disease as well as soft and hard tissue surgical procedures. Utilizing both Er:YAG and Nd:YAG laser wavelengths in a single treatment makes optimum use of the unique laser-tissue interaction characteristics of each wavelength. For example, Nd:YAG laser energy is superior for coagulation and deep disinfection, while Er:YAG is uniquely efficient at gently removing the infected surface tissue and calculus from the root surface. Combined, they can dramatically improve the outcome of laser-assisted periodontal disease treatments, guaranteeing maximum safety and high efficacy.

How Does Fotona Lightwalker® Laser Benefit Me?

Fotona’s TwinLight® Periodontal Treatment (TPT) allows for minimally invasive soft and hard tissue Regeneration. TPT permits new attachments formation between your gums and teeth by eliminating diseased tissues, destroying the bad bacteria in deep gum pockets, and encouraging existing healthy cells to regenerate periodontal ligaments, new attachment and promote bone growth around previously diseased teeth.

Furthermore, TwinLight® Periodontal Treatment (TPT) requires less need for anesthesia and post-op pain medicine than competing systems or traditional surgical procedures. Many offices routinely only use the Nd:YAG for treatment, however, Dr. Hamidi, uses both Nd:YAG and Er:YAG lasers to achieve the most comprehensive results.
